The European Union will defend a common position to guarantee access to radio space at WRC-23
The imminent WRC-23 (World Radiocommunication Conference 2023) will be approached by the European Union from a common position to guarantee population access to all telecommunications services.
The European Commission has approved to attend the next CMR-23, which will be held between November and December 2023, with a unified position, which must be defined during the coming months.
With this common approach, the European Union seeks to have more muscle in an event that promises to be complex given the complex interests surrounding the event. Although no concrete decisions have yet been made by the European body, it plans that the conclusions of WRC-23 continue to allow fluid access to the population to services such as 5G, los broadcast services, events, the world system Galileo radio navigation or the maritime radio communications without cross-border interference.
International negotiations on the radio spectrum in the World Radiocommunication Conference 2023 (WRC-23) are held every four years with the participation of some 193 ITU member states and 3000 delegates. The objective of this international forum is to offer options for the harmonization of uses of the radio spectrum in all regions and on a global scale to protect against radio interference. The resulting modifications to the ITU Radio Regulations (an international treaty) will seek to guarantee the cross-border operation of the different radiocommunication services.
