EBU, RTVE and 5G-MAG, waiting for effective improvements in 5G technology at the 5G Forum

The closing day of the sixth edition of the 5G Forum, an industry meeting to share knowledge about this mobile technology, has allowed UER, RTVE y 5G-MAG present your current vision of a technology that has not yet achieved its founding promises.

Cerrando el capítulo dedicado a las aplicaciones multimedia 5G, Urbano García Alonso y Pere Vila of RTVE han dado un repaso a las últimas iniciativas de la corporación pública en el terreno del 5G. La principal noticia es que apenas hay noticias: si bien la extensión de la cobertura 5G ha seguido progresando en el territorio español, no se han producido importantes avances en el último año que se puedan sumar a las experiencias de producción remota en Matadero o Almagro. Como ha remarcado García Alonso, director de innovación y digital, RTVE todavía está esperando al largamente prometido y esperado “5G de verdad”, que permita “salir de experimentos reducidos de plató o entornos pequeños”. Vila, director de estrategia tecnológica de RTVE, comparte la visión de su compañero: “El 5G es una oportunidad importante para nosotros en producción, transporte y emisión, pero hay que esperar a que los tiempos vayan avanzando”. Hasta entonces, el equipo de tecnología de RTVE sigue avanzando en materia de inteligencia artificial (y sus posibles lazos con el 5G) con nuevos proyectos como la creación de presentadores virtuales para escenarios virtuales, o la creación de contenidos audiovisuales personalizados para poblaciones de menos de 1000 habitantes.
