RTVE at the forefront of the use of 5G technology in the production of television programs

Compared to 4G network links, which require multiple connections to provide the ability to carry live video signals, 5G only needs one connection, reducing the cost and complexity of external emissions, in addition to reducing the latency up to 5 milliseconds, which will promote new ways of delivering content to audiences in the future, multiply by 100 the number of objects connected to the network and enable the development of new multimedia services and real-time applications that require ultra-fast connections, such as virtual and augmented reality or 8K video.

A clear example of use was the first live television connection in the world using exclusively 5G technology (Stand-Alone) that RTVE carried out on June 19. Continuing with this success, RTVE collaborates in these new tests with Vodafone Spain, which launched the first commercial 5G network on June 15 in 15 cities in our country: Madrid, Barcelona, ​​Valencia, Seville, Málaga, Zaragoza, Bilbao, Vitoria, San Sebastián, La Coruña, Vigo, Gijón, Pamplona, ​​Logroño and Santander.
