Germany, new leader of the European SVOD market, surpassing the United Kingdom for the first time
The latest study of Digital TV Research certifies the growth of the SVOD market in Germany, which will lead a paradigm shift co-starred by Spain.
Paradigm shift in the world of subscription video on demand. At the end of this year, Germany will have more SVOD subscriptions than the UK, a difference that will progressively widen over the coming years. This is the main conclusion of the study carried out by Digital TV Research.
The growth is not restricted to the German market, but extends to the entire Western Europe. Specifically, it is expected that this territory has 273 million SVOD subscriptions in 2029, compared to 210 million at the end of 2023. Of the 63 million registrations, the United Kingdom will contribute 6 million, Germany 12 million, Spain 9 million, Italy 10 million and France 11 million.
Simon Murray, principal analyst at Digital TV Research, assesses the results of the study: "The United Kingdom is the most mature SVOD market in Western Europe. Germany, France, Italy and Spain will each add more subscriptions than the United Kingdom in the coming years."
