New platforms will bring more than 400 million subscribers to the SVOD market

The latest study of Digital TV Research concludes that, despite the rise of AVOD models, the Subscription Video On Demand (SVOD) market will increase by 400 million.

Digital TV Research notes that SVOD subscriptions will increase by 400 million between 2022 and 2028 until reaching the 1.76 billion, which reveals that “there is still a lot of SVOD growth left.”

This global growth, which will allow, in 2028, 24 countries will have more than 10 million SVOD subscriptions, will be largely promoted by the United States. And, according to the study, within five years this market will have 972 million subscribers (55% of the world total) compared to 711 million today. Simon Murray, principal analyst of this study, highlights that Netflix and Disney+ will be at the forefront of this global growth: “Netflix will continue to be the largest platform despite the fact that Disney+ will add 57 million subscribers between 2022 and 2028.
