SVOD in 2029: 321 million more subscribers with Netflix leading the global market
The latest study of Digital TV Research on the state of the world SVOD-OTT takes us to the year 2029, revealing keys such as sustainable subscriber growth and the leadership of Netflix.
According to the report, among 2023 y 2029, the number of subscribers to on-demand television will increase by 321 million until reaching the 1.79 billion, which demonstrates a “continuous growth". The main benefited market in this regard is the United States, which will add 30 million subscriptions, followed by Brazil (23 million more) and India (27 million).
The globalization continues its course and the commitment of the global giants to enter each market with local bets yields a positive balance. According to Digital TV Research, six US-based platforms will have 946 million subscribers to SVOD in 2029, compared to 751 million in 2023. In these ways, these platforms will collectively increase their subscriber bases in 196 million.
Netflix will continue to be the largest global agent, adding 44 million subscribers between 2023 and 2029 to reach a total of 298 million. Disney+ will have more than 100 million fewer subscribers than Netflix, with significantly less investment and uptake in the Asia-Pacific region.
