Eduardo Campoy will receive the EGEDA Gold Medal at the Forqué Awards
The former president of FAPAE and the Film Academy and producer of films such as 'The Girl of Your Eyes', 'El Amante Bilingüe', 'Un Franco, 14 pesetas' or 'El Mejor Verano de mi Vida', Eduardo Campoy, will be honored for his contribution to the industry at the 29th edition of the Forqué Awards.
Campoy will receive the Forqué Gold Medal during the awards ceremony to be held next December 16 at the IFEMA Madrid Municipal Palace. With this award, EGEDA recognizes the work of a producer dedicated to the sector which has a diverse filmography and has decidedly committed to the importance of audiovisuals in Spain.
Enrique Cerezo, president of EGEDA, commented that "the EGEDA Council wanted to recognize not only the figure of Eduardo Campoy, his filmography as a producer and his passion for cinema and audiovisuals as a whole, but also the intense fight carried out for many years in favor of audiovisual producers and the development of our audiovisuals. The figure of the producer enjoys great prestige today thanks to Eduardo Campoy who, among others, has known how to promote, prestige and defend the figure of the producer that he is. essential, priority and indispensable in the development of the Industry.”
Among all his movies won prestigious awards in different international festivals, in addition to 92 nominations for the Goya awards, with 20 awards.
Producer of films by Agustín Díaz Yanes, Antonio Giménez Rico, Daniel de la Orden, Eloy de la Iglesia, Fernando Trueba, Jordi Grau, Mariano Barroso, Imanol Uribe, Enrique Urbizu, Pilar Miró and Vicente Aranda, Campoy has also co-produced works by Bigas Luna, Gerardo Herrero and Santiago Segura.
In addition to working as a film and television producer, he was director of four films: Zero copy (1981), which he co-directed with José Luis Pacheco and which featured Fernando Fernán Gómez and Luis Suárez, alone with you (1990), played by Victoria Abril, Imanol Arias and Juan Echanove, too much heart (1992), in which he worked with Victoria Abril, Manuel Bandera and Pastora Vega, and To the limit (1997), with a cast led by Juanjo Puigcorbé, Lydia Bosch, Beatrice Dalle and Bud Spencer.
A lifetime dedicated to production
His first credit as a producer was, precisely, with his debut feature, Zero copy, which would follow The Stranger-oh on Cruz del Sur Street, by Jordi Grau, released in 1986. Since then, he would produce ninety-four feature films, with works such as The tit and the moon, a Bigas Luna film that he co-produced in 1992, The bilingual lover, adaptation of the homonymous novel by Juan Marsé directed by Vicente Aranda in 1993, or The manger dog, Pilar Miró's penultimate film adapting the play of the same name by Lope de Vega.
In 1998, he would be a producer of The apple of your eye, celebrated film by Fernando Trueba focused on the journey of Florián Rey and Imperio Argentina to film the musical film Carmen, from Triana. The film starring Penélope Cruz, Antonio Resines, Jorge Sanz, Rosa María Sardá and Santiago Segura, was not the only relevant production in which Campoy participated that year: he would also be co-producer of Torrente, the foolish arm of the law, Santiago Segura's directorial debut that would lead to one of the most successful sagas at the Spanish box office.
To his work in film production, Campoy would also add credits such as television producer in series and films for the small screen, from Thieves go to the office (1993-1996) to the original Movistar series Supernormal (2022-2023), without forgetting hits like The house of trouble for Antenna 3, Aladina for TVE and The Adventures of Captain Alatriste for Telecinco.
Already in the 21st century, the producer would support cinematographic works such as No news from God (2001, Agustín Díaz Yanes), Bulgarian bride and groom (2002, Eloy de la Iglesia), Without Shame (2001, Joaquín Oristrel) or One franc, 14 pesetas (2006, Carlos Iglesias), and television works such as Tell me how it happened, of which he co-produced its first seasons, the documentary Florida State v. J.J. Martinez, The Cuban Game, directed by Manuel Martín Cuenca, or the series of Pepe Carvallo directed by Enrique Urbizu for Telecinco.
His latest productions include box office hits such as Lord, give me patience (2017, Álvaro Díaz Lorenzo), The best summer of my life (2018, Daniel of the Order), Lithuanian (2019, Daniel of the Order), Mom or Dad (2021, Daniel of the Order), Superagente Makey (2020, Alfonso Sánchez) or everyone does it (2021, Martín Cuervo).
Committed to the sector
To his intense performance in the audiovisual industry, Campoy also adds outstanding work in institutions that have defended the activities of the sector, a role that he continues to perform on the board of EGEDA.
Previously, he was president of the Film Academy in 2009, as well as general director of the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain, president of FAP, advisor to Spanish Institute of Foreign Trade (ICEX), director of AGITATE, member of the board of directors of AECINE (State Film Association) and ANEPA (National Association of Audiovisual Production Companies).
The Gold Medal winner has worked as a senior official in numerous companies dedicated to audiovisuals. He was president of Audiovisual Group Poster, which encompassed more than ten companies in the sector and with which it produced more than 70 feature films, a dozen television films, more than 30 short films, documentaries and television series with a significant audience. He also directed Drive Cine between 2004 and 2008, and was responsible for the Fiction Film Production and Television Films activity of the Boomerang Group. He was general director of DLO Producciones, a company belonging to the Banijay Group, and is currently in charge of Álamo Audiovisual Productions, inside Secuoya Studios.
