ATG Danmon creates a virtual set for a UK university

One of the main British universities based in London trains its students in the latest communication and journalism technologies through a UHD virtual set designed and installed by the integrator ATG Danmon.

Created in collaboration with the university's media training team, the new UHD virtual studio covers the entire chain of creation, including a control room with all the necessary equipment so that students can gain experience in the production of green screen programs. Its UHD mixer, around which the studio is structured and capable of supplying up to 16 cameras, receives signals from a combination of traditional models Manually operated and compact units PTZ remote controlled. The virtual studio integrated by ATG Danmon measures 7 meters wide by 4 meters from front to back, with a 3-meter-high green screen cyclorama, green floor and infinite moldings. Electronically generated images can be overlaid on the entire green surface or any subsection selected by the operator. The design was not without challenges, since the wall to floor transitions They require especially careful setup to ensure that camera-generated and electronically overlaid elements are visually fluid throughout the entire production. The solution chosen in this case included a color-matched PVC floor tucked into the front edge of the cover to form a smooth transition from screen to floor.

Finally, ATG Danmon also took over the lightning of the project, essential for the students to understand the different light sources they would be working with to ensure that the presenters and studio furniture were clearly separated from the virtual images. In collaboration with the British university, the integrator decided to install a versatile lighting system composed of main and fill luminaires, backlights, a large soft light, pantographs and a supporting grid. These light sources were accompanied by a easy-to-use console (with a touch control surface with a “smartphone” interface for configuration, programming and playback), which allows controlling dimming lights and color mixing LED devices.
