Brainstorm en Wimbledon

The company specialized in sports and event graphics based in the United Kingdom, MOVE, has used InfinitySet again Brainstorm to provide Wimbledon Broadcast Services (WBS) with a new virtual set with Augmented Reality using the Unreal Engine of Epic Games.

The concept was to recreate a virtual garden on an open-air rooftop that simulated the real garden of the Wimbledon building, where players could sit and be interviewed by broadcasters from around the world, managing to offer new forms of interaction with the audience, thus enhancing the narrative capacity during the recently completed edition of the tournament, taking advantage of the infinite possibilities offered by Brainstorm's virtual technology.

Brainstorm en WimbledonCreated around a chroma key studio, Wimbledon's new virtual set dramatically expands the available space beyond its physical limits, using a technique called set extension, which allows new virtual spaces to be created around a small real set, in effect creating a 360º circular studio. This also allows alternative camera shots, more space to add infographics and of course greater presence of the Wimbledon brand. InfinitySet provided added value with its flexibility to change, adapt and make last-minute adjustments.

The study had several PTZ cameras of Sony and to guarantee the output quality each camera was associated with an InfinitySet system with Unreal Engine y chroma-keyer Ultimatte, of Blackmagic Design. In addition to providing an indoor option during times when it was raining outside, the studio was also used extensively at the end of each day, when it was too cold or too dark to conduct interviews outdoors.

Brainstorm en WimbledonThe study was available to all rights holders during the championship, with several Eurosport regions among the most prolific users of it, conducting interviews with players in person and sometimes also via Zoom. Among the dozens of television networks that also used the virtual set for their interviews and live connections, TV Globo, Movistar +, CCTV, Sky TV, Sports TV, NHK, Super Sport, Star Sports, ESPN, Tennis Channel and, of course, the BBC stand out.

David Alexander, commercial director of Brainstorm, highlights that "together with Paul Vanlint from Storm Broadcast, our distributor in the United Kingdom and Ireland, we have worked with Moov on many projects, but what they have done at Wimbledon 2023 is next level! Moov has a highly talented team that knows our products perfectly and how to get the most out of their many functions and capabilities, whether InfinitySet or Aston, our graphics system, or even Neuron, which integrates graphics and its management in NRCS systems. We are delighted that Moov has once again used InfinitySet, our leading software, for such a prestigious and world-renowned sporting event as the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament.”
