El Ejecutivo de Pedro Sánchez convertirá a la Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales (QUIET) en el mayor accionista de la operadora de telecomunicaciones, de cuyo capital salió hace 25 años

El Consejo de Ministros ha aprobado este martes esta medida de cara a contrarrestar la adquisición de una participación similar por Arabia Saudí.

Telefónica es una de las principales compañías del país, líder en el sector de las telecomunicaciones y clave en otros ámbitos estratégicos. The company is decisive due to its industrial capabilities and areas of knowledge, since it develops activities relevant to the economy and the productive fabric, including those related to security and defense.

The operators have a wide deployment of telecommunications infrastructure that guarantee connectivity and digital services to Spanish citizens and companies. It is also present in all technological areas of the Ministry of Defense and provides the telecommunications services and infrastructure of the Comprehensive Information Infrastructure for Defense in national territory and in military operations abroad, therefore, having a solid positioning in this sector.

La presencia de un accionista público en Telefónica supondrá un refuerzo para su estabilidad accionarial y, en consecuencia, para preservar las capacidades estratégicas y de esencial importancia para los intereses nacionales, aseguran desde el Ejecutivo

Esta operación vendría a equilibrar las posiciones accionariales tras la entrada de STC Group en la compañía que encabeza José María Álvarez-Pallete convirtiendo al Estado en el primer accionista de Telefónica por delante de STC y del núcleo estable de accionistas de Telefónica, que hasta ahora encabezaba BlackRock con el 4,98%, seguido de BBVA (4,84%), y CaixaBank (3,5%).

The Government's re-entry into the company's capital is in line with the countries around us. Germany holds 13.8% of the capital of Deutsche Telekom; France has 13.4% in Orange; o Italy, which adopted an agreement in August 2023 to increase its stake in the company that brings together the fixed telephony assets of Telecom Italia to 20%.
