France Télévisions UHD

On the eve of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, France Télévisions will launch France 2 UHD from January 23 and France 3 UHD from July 10.

Following the authorisation by the French telecommunications regulator, ARCOM, last October, France Télévisions becomes the first broadcasting group to offer an ultra-high definition (UHD) channel on DTT, offering unrivalled picture and sound quality to French viewers.

Thanks to digital terrestrial television (DTT) coverage, the two channels will be available in much of metropolitan France and in nine French overseas territories. It should be noted that, at this time, around the 70% of French households already have a 4K/UHD TV.

The UHD channel of France 2 will be available 24 hours a day on DTT channel 52 in mainland France and on channel 22 in the French overseas territories from Tuesday 23 January, while the UHD channel of France 3 it will arrive on DTT channel 53 in mainland France and channel 23 in the French overseas territories on July 10 for a period of two months. They will also be available throughout France via satellite (Fransat) and gradually through ISPs (Internet Service Providers).

Delphine Ernotte Cunci, President and CEO of France Télévisions, comments that "the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be an unforgettable event in the history of French television. They give us the opportunity to take our production and broadcasting media to a new level, offering an Ultra High Definition experience of our content to all audiences and on all screens. DTT remains the only means of access to television for almost 20% of the French population: with this development, France Télévisions is committed to its modernisation and therefore to its future".
