Cascajosa Conception

The Council of Spanish Radio Television This Wednesday, Concepción Cascajosa, counselor of the highest body at the proposal of the PSOE, was appointed as the new provisional president of the Corporation for a period of six months, replacing Elena Sánchez Caballero.

The until now president of the RTVE Equality Observatory, has been elected by the Board of Directors after the suspension of yesterday's meeting where after dismissing the content director, Jose Pablo Lopez, the highest body of the Corporation forced the departure of interim president Elena Sánchez.

Concepción Cascajosa is a member of the Board of Directors of RTVE, elected by the Cortes at the proposal of the PSOE in March 2021. Since July of the same year, she was also the president of the RTVE Equality Observatory, the body made up of representatives of workers, management and social organizations to work for equality between women and men.

Born in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona) in 1979, Cascajosa has a doctorate in Audiovisual Communication from the University of Seville with an Extraordinary Award. Professor of Audiovisual Communication in the Department of Communication of the Carlos III University of Madrid, of which she is director, with two six-year periods of recognized research, and Award of Excellence from the Social Council.

In addition, she has been director of the Master's Degree in Film and TV Scriptwriting; vice dean of Journalism and Audiovisual Communication Studies; author or editor of nine books and a hundred academic publications; and collaborator in media such as El País, Fotogramas and Serielizados.

It should be noted that the expert committee that in 2018 examined the candidates who would be part of the Board of Directors, scored Carbajosa in the 86th place out of 95 candidates (with a score of 17.5 points compared to 65.5 for the best-rated candidate). Among other reasons, the committee alleged that its project lacked a diagnosis of the sector (“there is no serious diagnosis, just a touch of generalities”), business structure or economic viability. They adduced “many generalities and superficial approaches” in a proposal that did take “technological change into account.”
