Dramatic dismissal of Elena Sánchez as interim president of RTVE

The board of directors of RTVE This Tuesday he experienced one of the angriest meetings in his history. The interim president of the Corporation, Elena Sánchez Caballero, has dismissed the content director José Pablo López, giving rise to a revolution within the council that has finally concluded with the dismissal of Sánchez herself.
During the last weeks it was evident tension that existed between Sánchez and López due to differences in the programming line that became deeper due to the possibility of signing the showman David Broncano and his program The Resistance (produced by El Terrat and Encofrados Encofrasa and until now on Movistar+). On March 11, the Council rejected the three-year contract for this format, asking the content director, now dismissed, to present another proposal with a duration of between one and two years depending on the audience results.
While the dismissal of López It has had the votes in favor of the president herself and three PP councilors (Jenaro Castro, Carmen Sastre and Consuelo Aparicio), in addition to the councilor proposed by Unidas Podemos (José Manuel Martín Medem). They voted against the other representative of Unidas Podemos (Roberto Lakidain), the two councilors proposed by the PSOE (Ramón Colom and Concepción Cascajosa) and the one from the PNV (Juan José Baños).
For its part, the dismissal of Elena Sánchez, who came to office in September 2022 after the resignation of José Manuel Pérez Tornero, has been proposed by Roberto Lakidain, appointed at the proposal of Unidas Podemos. And the councilors of PP (Jenaro Castro, Carmen Sastre and Consuelo Aparicio), PSOE (Ramón Colom and Concepción Cascajosa) have supported it. The councilor of the PNV Juan José Baños has abstained while the councilor of Unidas Podemos, José Manuel Martín Medem, has voted against.
From now on, and on an interim basis, the Corporation will have a rotating presidency among current directors. Precisely this month the mandate of five of its nine councilors ends (the three from the PP, one from the PSOE and another related to the PNV). The other four councilors (two from the PSOE and two from Unidas Podemos) will remain for three more years.
