UHD Spain - New president - Víctor Sánchez TVE

The last General Assembly of UHD Spain appoints Víctor Sánchez, director of media and operations of TVE, as the new president of the association, taking over from Pere Vila, new honorary member.

UHD Spain - Asamblea general 2024UHD Spain has actively participated in the latest edition of the 4K HDR Summit, an event in which the association held a General Assembly which has served to make effective the appointment of Victor Garcia as president. It is a true privilege to have assumed the presidency of this organization, taking over from Pere Vila, who has been a reference in the sector for years, being the previous representative of RTVE. “I thank Pere for his tireless work and all the members of the association for their trust, hoping to live up to it,” he declared to those present. García on the spot, to later advance his commitment to “continue to promote innovation and development of UHD and associated technology, as well as fostering collaboration between key industry players.”

UHD Spain - Socio de honor - Pere VilaThe General Assembly of UHD Spain was preceded by the association's participation in the opening day of the 4K HDR Summit. Jose Manuel Menendez, representative of UHD Spain and academic from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, opened the event with the presentation of the third edition of The UHD White Paper. Menéndez explained the ins and outs of the industry and ultra high definition, with this “technical manual” which aims to share work experiences and “provide companies with a reference that is very useful when approaching these technologies,” including “the use of AI to “measuring the subjective quality of user experience (QoE) in video”.

UHD Spain - 4K HDR Summit presentationNext, a panel was held with different members of the association, focused on the presentation of the Proof of Concept (PoC) with AI carried out in 2024, with Ivan Lopez, RTVE director; Emily Planas, CTO of Grup Mediapro and member of the Board of Directors of UHD Spain; Xavi Bonet, Image Postproduction Manager at 3Cat and member of the association; and Sonia Valladares, Staff Solutions Engineer at Dolby. In his interventions, Planas commented that with this test “the limits of the system were sought to know how far it could go.” According to López, it was “an experience divided into three phases, with 16:9 editing, 360º immersion and the use of three virtual rooms,” which included the participation of the RTVE Orchestra and Choir and that has locations such as Royal Theater.

The 4K HDR Summit 2024 has also allowed UHD Spain to hold conversations with international leaders around the future of ultra high definition. Jorge Rodríguez, head of product and marketing at Hispasat, and head of international relations at UHD Spain, held a meeting with Jacques Donat-Bouillid, director of France Télévision and president of the Forum AudioVisuel Numérique (FAVN), as well as with the representative of the UWA (UHD World Association), which brings together 430 companies, Liqiang Zhao. Later, Rodríguez together with Xavier Redón, product manager at Cellnex, they had a meeting with the Chinese association Sichuan UHD Video Industry Association (SUVA).
