Fernando Méndez-LeiteThis Wednesday, September 4, the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain has announced the three selected films that will be chosen to represent Spain in the next edition of the 97th edition of the Oscars, in the category of Best International Film: 'The Blue Star', 'Marco' and 'Second Prize'.

The actresses Malena Alterio (winner of the Goya for Best Leading Actress for let no one sleep), Belen Cuesta (winner of the Goya for Best Leading Actress for The infinite trench) y Victoria Luengo (nominated for the Goya for Best Leading Actress for Suro), have been in charge of discovering the three shortlisted films, accompanied by the president of the Academy Fernando Méndez-Leite and the notary Eva Fernández Medina.

The blue starThe Argentine-Spanish co-production The blue star is directed by Javier Macipe and produced by MOD Producciones, El Pez Amarillo and Cimarrón, in co-production with La Charito Films and Prisma. It presents the life of Mauricio, a famous Spanish rocker who travels through Latin America looking to rediscover his vocation.

MarcoAs to Marco, is a 2024 Spanish biographical drama film directed by the duo Aitor Arregi and Jon Garaño (Handia', 'The Infinite Trench', 'Cristóbal Balenciaga) starring Eduard Fernández as Enric Marco. Produced by Atresmedia Cine, it focuses on a man who was able to sustain a big lie for years: that he had been a prisoner in a Nazi concentration camp.

Finally, Second prize is directed by Isaki Lacuesta, co-directed by Pol Rodríguez and written by Lacuesta and Fernando Navarro. Daniel Ibáñez, Cristalino, Stéphanie Magnin, Mafo, Chesco Ruiz and Edu Rejón give life to this biopic set in the 90s and focused on the legendary Granada band Los Planetas. The film is a Spanish-French production with La Terraza Films, Áralan Films, Ikiru Films, Bteam Prods, Sideral Cinema, Los Ilusos Films, Toxicosmos AIE and Capricci Films

On September 18, the film that will finally represent our country at the Hollywood Academy Awards will be announced.
