'Casa en flames', 'El 47', 'La Estrella Azul', 'La infiltrada' and 'Second Prize' will compete for best film at the Goya Awards
With the Alhambra as a backdrop, Natalia de Molina and Álvaro Cervantes the nominated films of the 39th edition of the awards are revealed Goya Awards of the Film Academy, whose gala will be held on February 8, 2025 at the Granada Conference and Exhibition Palace.
The films that garner the greatest number of nominations are The 47 (14 nominations), The infiltrator (13), Second prize (11), The next room (10), The red virgin (9), House in flames y The blue star (8).
The Goya to best movie will finally be among one of these five productions: House in flames, The 47, The blue star, The infiltrator y Second Prize. In the category of Ibero-American film will opt for Goya Hold me tight (Uruguay), I'm still here (Brazil), The jockey (Argentina), The place of the others (Chile), and Memories of a body that burns (Costa Rica).
In animation, Búffalo Kids, Guardian of Dragons, Black Butterflies, SuperKlaus y Rock Bottom They are the nominated feature films.
In the technical categories, compete for the award for the best special effects: The 47, Guardian of Dragons, The Infiltrator, The Red Virgin y Marco. Goya to the best photograph compete The 47, Guardian of Dragons, The Room Next Door, The Infiltrator, Second Prize y I'm Nevenka. The award for sound will be disputed between The Blue Star, The Room Next Door, The Infiltrator, The Red Virgin y Second prize; while in mounting will choose The 47, The Blue Star, The Infiltrator, The Little Loves y Second prize.
In the section of address, academics will have to choose between Pedro Almodóvar (The next room),
Arancha echevvaría (Infilltrada), Paula Ortiz (The red virgin), Aitor Arregi and Jon Garaño (Marco), Aitor Arregui and Jon Garaño (Marco) and Isaki Lacuesta and Pol Rodriguez (Second prize).
To the 39th edition of the Goya Awards have chosen a total of 209 Spanish films released in our country between January 1 and December 31, 2024. Of these 209 productions, 121 are fiction, 80 are documentaries and 8 are animation. They also attended this year 21 European films –11 more than last year– and 17 Ibero-American feature films, films that in both categories have been chosen by their respective countries. Of the 209 films entered for the 2025 Goya Awards, 72 are debut films. As for the scripts, 163 are original and 42 adapted. Of the 62 short films registered, 30 are fiction, 17 are documentaries and 15 are animation.
The Film Academy will take advantage of the celebration of the 39th of its awards to award the Goya of Honor a Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, former president of the institution. Theater, film and television actress, she debuted on television in 1986 in the RTVE series Second Education. He continued his career performing small roles in film and theater, until 1989, when he participated in the film Go down to the Moro, directed by Fernando Colomo with which he became known within Spanish cinema. His first role as a protagonist was in 1988, in the film Winds of Wrath, directed by Pedro de la Sota, and for which she received the Paco Rabal Award for best actress, opening an extensive cinematographic career. In 1998 she was appointed president of the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain, holding the position for only two years. During his presidency, the institution obtained the transfer from the Ministry of Culture of the mansion next to Génova Street in Madrid that currently houses its headquarters.
The gala of the Goya 2025, which will be presented by actresses Maribel Verdú and Leonor Watling, will take place on February 8, 2025 at the Granada Conference and Exhibition Palace. The Andalusian city will devote itself to the awards ceremony with a extensive program of previous activities which will include urban exhibitions; screenings of the nominated films accompanied by meetings with their authors and protagonists; educational and social activities; giant goyas through the streets, and a photocall at City Hall, among other activities.
