Goya statuette

A total of 21 stories have been submitted by the academies and selection committees of their respective countries to compete to be nominated for the Goya for Best European Film at the 39th edition of these awards, which will be held in Granada on February 8.

In this edition, the Film Academy has accepted up to a maximum of two films per country.

Austria has chosen the documentary Who fears Hitler's people?, by Günter Schwaiger; and Belgica Augure, by Baloji, and The girl who healed, the Fien Troch. Beautiful Evening, Beautiful Day, by Yvona Juka, is the Croatian bet; and Dog on Trial, by Laetita Dosch and Queens, by Klaudia Reynicke, the Swiss.

French made, they are The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexandre de La Patellière and Matthieu Delaporte; y Emilia Perez, by Jacques Audiard. Flow, an animated film by Gints Zilbalodis, will represent Latvia.

Two Portuguese feature films are also aspiring to be nominated for Best European Film: Grand Tour, by Miguel Gomes, and The wind whistling on the cranesby Jeanne Waltz. Türkiye has presented Hesitation Wound, in Selman Nacar, y Yurt, by Nehir Tuna. Germany is represented by In the Blind Spot, by Ayse Polat; and Luxembourg for Kensuke’s Kingdom, by Neil Boyle and Kirk Hendry, Marianengraben, the Eileen Byrne.

The options are completed with the Italian ones The Chimera, by Alice Rohrwacher, y Laf building, by Michele Riondino; United Kingdom has sent The area of ​​interest, by Jonathan Glazer; and those selected by Iceland are Ljósbrot (When the Light Breaks), y Touch, de Baltasar Kormákur.
