TEDx Genova: inspiration and avant-garde powered by Blackmagic Design
Attilio Di Pietro, founder and technical director of ADP Events, led the technical deployment of the event TEDx Genoa, produced with a selection of Blackmagic equipment.
In TEDx Genoa, nine speakers addressed big questions about how to make the Earth more habitable despite climate and social change. All in an outdoor setting and with high production capacities, so that online viewers could experience the energy transmitted in the Villa Serra in Comago: "Our goal was to capture the entire spectrum of the experience, from the speaker's body language and gestures to the audience's reactions. We have to produce images that convey the energy of the live show to an online audience," he explains. By Peter.
ADP Events opted for solutions Blackmagic Design to get a workflow that responded to all the audiovisual requirements of the event. In the words of the head of the production company: "We have invested in Blackmagic Design for its comprehensive workflow, which offers exceptional color accuracy, even in low light, and reliability. In addition, the dual output capability of its broadcast cameras, combined with the ultra-low latency of the fiber optic system, guarantees a fluid and professional recording experience."
Using fiber chains SMPTE, two cameras URSA Broadcast G2 equipped with objectives zoom b4 and Blackmagic studio viewers were deployed on the front line. While the first provided close-ups of the speakers, the second position was controlled remotely from the control gallery, providing a mix of wide shots and close-ups. The capture was completed with three cameras Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K G2 placed in the left and right corners of the stage, as well as on the ceiling of the auditorium, providing a top-down perspective.
In the control room, mixing was done with the ATEM Constellation 8K and a ATEM 2 M/E Advanced Panel for control, while the solution Blackmagic Videohub 40×40 12G added flexibility, allowing the team to manage and distribute signals from fiber-connected and non-fiber-connected cameras in the gallery. ADP Events also used several HyperDeck Studio 4K Pro to capture ISO recordings from each camera; a HyperDeck Studio HD Mini additional backup for program output, and a live production mixer ATEM Mini Extreme to manage multimedia elements in real time, such as Power Points and embedded video resources
Los ISO The camera and program output of each talk were recorded individually on 1080p25 using ProRes to ensure the production met TED archival standards. The talks were subsequently edited before being uploaded to the social media channel. YouTube of TEDx: “With this solution, we were able to create and deliver an immersive experience for both live audiences and online viewers, fulfilling the essence of TEDx's mission to share and spread ideas,” Di Pietro concludes.
