Makito X4

With the latest version of Makito X4 video encoder, Haivision introduces new features designed to address the real challenges broadcasters face such as NMOS integration for ST 2110 workflows, advanced audio features and intelligent video optimizations.

Broadcast environments increasingly rely on ST 2110 workflows to transport video, audio and metadata over IP networks. However, the implementation and management of these systems can be complex. The latest version of Makito X4 introduces support for NMOS (Networked Media Open Specifications) to face this challenge.

Makito X4 is now compatible with IS-04 (streamlined discovery and registration of devices on the network), IS-05 (simplified connection management for fast and consistent configuration) and IS-09 (unified configuration of system parameters for seamless interoperability).

NMOS Automation reduces time and effort necessary for configuration, especially in complex environments with multiple ST 2110 devices. Additionally, it works seamlessly with other ST 2110 compatible devices, improving interoperability.

As IP workflows increase in size and complexity, managing an increasing number of devices can become a challenge. NMOS simplifies the process and ensures that expanding your broadcast production workflow is easy, no matter how many devices you add.

As for the audio, Makito X4 now supports surround sound encoding. Broadcasters can now bundle and encode up to 8 audio channels (e.g. 5.1, 7.1) into a single MPEG PID. This feature ensures compatibility with AAC and linear PCM formats, and supports multichannel audio from SDI and ST 2110-30 inputs. It is a valuable complement to deliver immersive audio experiences, especially at live events or entertainment programs.

For workflows that demand uncompromising audio quality, the new feature Linear PCM Pass-Through allows the transmission of uncompressed audio according to the SMPTE 302M standard. This ensures maximum audio fidelity from source to destination.

Finally, Makito X4 is now compatible with Dolby Digital AC3 and E-AC3 pass-through, allowing broadcasters to stream audio directly from the SDI inputs without any recompression. This preserves the original surround sound, ensuring maximum quality for formats such as 2.0, 5.1 and 7.1, while maintaining compatibility with professional audio workflows.
