Javier Macipe, Goya Best New Director for La estrella azul_Direccion novel

Javier Macipe manages to prevail with his film 'The Blue Star' over Pedro Martín-Calero for 'El llanto', Sandra Romero Acevedo for 'Por donde pasa el silencio', Miguel Faus for 'Calladita' and Paz Vega for 'Rita' as Best New Director at the 39th edition of the Goya Awards.

After triumphing in the young directors' section of the San Sebastian Film Festival and having aroused the interest of all critics, Macipe (Zaragoza, 4 August 1987) has finally convinced the Academics who already nominated him in 2015 and 2021 for his short films Os meninos do Rio and Expenses included. The Goya now confirms him as one of the most promising emerging film directors.

Javier Macipe, Goya new directorMacipe went on stage to collect the award and pronounced an original thank you with an Argentine milonga meter, in homage to the song by Peteco Carabajal that gives its name to his first feature film.

"Thank you to the Academy, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Today this faithful servant will sleep very proud because Goya, my countryman, is returning to Aragon," said the Zaragoza filmmaker when collecting the award.

"Thank you, dear team, for making the dream come true, from the boss to the chef. From the meritorious to the producer, Álvaro, Claudia, and Amelia, Lorena, Tuba, Chavela. And to everyone, thank you for so much love." "Father who went to heaven, not seeing the star shine. Look at your son, here he is, naming Salvador, his father. Let the whole of Spain know, you taught me to create. Long live my dear family, who never abandoned me. Long live Argentina and Santiago. Long live Ariño, long live folklore. And long live Pepe Lorente for reviving the singer," he said excitedly.

Javier Macipe, Goya new director"When I heard my name and went on stage, there was a moment of thinking about Mauricio, clearly. I tried to think about it just before he said the name to be aware of where all this was born, what is the origin and the meaning of everything," admits the young director.

The Blue Star, inspired by the figure of the musician Mauricio Aznar, explores the search for creativity and artistic authenticity. It narrates the transformation of Aznar, who, after leading the Zaragoza band Más Birras in the 90s, undertook an introspective journey to Argentina in search of the essence of his art. Macipe, also a musician, traveled to the South American country to document himself and capture his personal experience with local folklore.
