RTVE, La Xarxa and 3Cat promote the production of documentaries in Catalan

The president of the Corporation RTVE, José Pablo López; the CEO of La Xarxa, Núria de José; and the president of the Catalan Audiovisual Media Corporation (CCMA), Rosa Romà sign an agreement that seeks to promote the production of documentaries in Catalan.

The first action will be the call to select different television documentary projects in Catalan in the development process. This call will be open from February 24 to April 22. The selected projects will be announced in the presentation sessions, through a public pitching, during the 2025 edition of the Audiovisual Market of Catalonia (MAC), which will be held on June 11 in Granollers. These documentaries will be co-produced and broadcast by the three public corporations.

This pact responds to the will of the three corporations to provide support and encourage audiovisual communication in Catalan and to, with a vocation of public service, join forces and resources to promote knowledge of the arts, science and the history of culture in society. It also seeks to promote the joint production of audiovisual content, the development of content in multiplatform and interactive formats, technologically innovative audiovisual projects and the exchange of programs.

The president of the RTVE Corporation, Jose Pablo Lopez, pointed out that "first of all, I want to highlight the act that we are carrying out this morning. The CEO of La Xarxa, Núria de José, has highlighted the importance of the agreement "that allows us to explain stories that speak of values. An agreement that empowers local television networks and that shows the will of the three corporations to bet on truthful information and quality entertainment."

For her part, the president of the CCMA, Roman Rose, has assured that the agreement “reinforces the commitment that we have already been making to provide our offer with public service content.” In this sense, Romà has highlighted that the public media "are committed to offering citizens quality content such as documentaries and doing so in our language, Catalan, and betting on the country's talent and audiovisual industry."

Call for documentaries

The call for documentaries has two categories: Open Documentary e Proximity stories. The category of Open Documentary This time, it will have a budget of 275,000 euros, a figure that represents an increase of more than 65% compared to the previous year, and the category of Proximity stories will have an endowment of 195,000 euros, 85% more.s

Both categories are open to Catalan audiovisual production companies and operators without thematic restrictions and the proposals will be assessed on the artistic quality, the solidity of the script, the structure of the content and the narrative and sound adequacy. Those selected will be chosen by an expert committee made up of representatives from RTVE, La Xarxa and CCMA.
