Nippon TV aims for global expansion with creation of Gyokuro Studio
The creation of Gyokuro Studio, a production house focused on the development of content for the global market, and the launch of Nippon TV LA Business Office, an office in Los Angeles (United States), ratify the international expansion of the Japanese company Nippon TV.
Gyokuro Studio, based in Tokyo, aims to develop 10 titles unscripted each year for a total of 100 titles over the next 10 years, with plans to distribute them to audiences around the world. The studio will “co-create” not only with internal talent, but also with external creators and production companies to offer the world top quality Japanese content, “made with the same care and distinction as the most prestigious Japanese tea, “Gyokuro””.
Kenichiro Akiyama, who has held key roles as chief producer of multiple primetime entertainment programs on Nippon TV, has been named head of Gyokuro Studio. This is how he values this new initiative: “We are restructuring our production framework, moving from a model focused on the national level to one designed for global deployment, accelerating the development of a solid foundation to create content that resonates with audiences around the world.”
"We will actively engage in true global 'co-creation' with our production partners both in Japan and abroad, and together we will strive to generate new needs and value in the global entertainment market. We will continue to take on new challenges every day with the aim of building a strong and sustainable presence," he concludes.
On the other hand, the Nippon TV LA Business Office will focus on driving sales of content and intellectual property in North America and Latin America, establish alliances with local distribution studios and create a local production framework, among other activities. Tom Miyauchi, who has held the position of format director at Nippon TV and was instrumental in the launch of the Canadian adaptation of Old Enough!, has been named head of Nippon TV LA's business office and will relocate to Los Angeles in June to begin operations beginning in July.
