Leica Geosystems adapts its LiDAR scanning technology to the entertainment industry with Cyclone 3DR

Cyclone 3DR (Leica Geosystems) offers a set of AI-powered tools to optimize LiDAR scans and facilitate the application of digital assets in film, broadcast, animation, virtual reality or video game development.

The entertainment industry uses scans LiDAR for tasks such as construction immersive VR locations, the animation of real world environments and support for pre and post production. However, the complexity of these scans often requires additional tools and specialized knowledge. With the new AI tools of Cyclone 3DR, those same computers can work directly with the LiDAR scans, edit and delete unwanted objects, such as vehicles, trees or industrial structures, y export them in the file format of their choice, creating a personal library of photorealistic and scalable assets.

Users can pair Cyclone 3DR with a Nvidia RTX PRO GPU for access features powered by artificial intelligence such as Classification IA. LiDAR scans are typically made up of millions or billions of small data points, grouped into a set of point clouds. This gives scans incredible realism and depth in a 3D model, but also makes it difficult to directly edit individual objects. With this tool, Cyclone 3DR can identify points and classify groups into a recognizable asset.

From there, users can work directly with the object to clean, edit, or even remove it entirely using the solution. AI Segment. The object can then be added to a library and reused later in a future 3D project. To further simplify the process, users can also choose to use the internal automated process for quick results, or create custom scripts and filters that fit into existing workflows.

Cyclone 3DR allows you to choose between six AI-based models. Four are tailored to commercial use cases (heavy construction, indoor construction, industrial plants and highways), while two others cover more general indoor and outdoor environments. Each model has been extensively trained on thousands of ethically sourced datasets, including point clouds, 2D images, and 3D models relevant to your environment. From there, users can choose to continue working directly with the point cloud data or choose to use Cyclone 3DR's advanced meshing algorithms to generate high-quality meshes, complete with additional data such as volume calculations, drift analysis, and more.

Although Cyclone 3DR has been designed and tested with Leica's range of 3D laser scanners, such as BLK2GO, BLK360 y RTC360, is hardware independent. Cyclone 3DR is currently available as a standalone product, and can also be obtained as part of a bundle with a Leica Geosystems LiDAR scanner.
