RTVE Canarias, awarded the Gold Medal from the University of La Laguna
The University of La Laguna (ULL) has delivered to RTVE Canary Islands the Gold Medal of the institution “for being a privileged witness to the history of the Canary Islands” and an example “of the commitment to rigorous information, culture and public service.”
Francisca González Santana, director of the RTVE Production Center in the islands, has collected the Gold Medal from the hands of the rector of the university, Francisco García Rodríguez, in an event held in the University Auditorium. The director of Production Center of RTVE in the Canary Islands, which celebrated its 60 years of broadcasting in the archipelago a few months ago, highlighted the strength of the public service provided by RTVE in the Islands, whose archive literally corresponds to the collective memory of the Archipelago.
Beyond its directing impact on citizens, the ULL has highlighted the educational and informative work carried out by the RTVE professionals on the islands in collaboration with the university itself. Furthermore, his commitment to technological modernization and the quality content production, which has contributed to uniting a fragmented territory like the Canary Islands and projecting it nationally and internationally.
In his acceptance speech, González He recalled that “whoever tells the story is also part of it,” and how hundreds of Canary Islanders met and recognized each other for decades through the images and audios of TVE and RNE, at a time when “travel was not so easy between islands and not everyone had enough resources to do so.”
