Mediapro sheds light on photography direction in VP environments with a training day in Barcelona
Set 2 of the installations Mediapro Group in the 22@ technological district of Barcelona was the scene of an intensive day focused on the essential aspects of developing filming projects in virtual environments, with special focus on the role of cinematography.
The theoretical-practical sessions, organized by the Spanish Association of Directors of Photography, were taught by Sergio de Uña (AEC) and Xes Villa (VP supervisor at Grup Mediapro) with the participation of Mario Montero (AEC). More than 40 professionals from the sector attended the event in which the different options for virtual shooting and how to deal with them, the aesthetic planning of the set and its backgrounds.
The day, held on June 18, included practical demonstrations with environments generated in Unreal Engine, 360º backgrounds, LED color schemes and techniques with Frame Remapping, applied to both characters and scenes with vehicles. Other aspects discussed were the relationship between real elements and virtual backgrounds, and its integration into the staging, as well as the development of the on-set art direction, with special attention to lighting design and color settings.
