Lawo HOME, now with architectural improvements and transparent licenses
Theirs launches HOME 4.0, the latest version of its native management platform for IP, which represents a major update with the introduction of significant architectural improvements, an optimized licensing model and greater operational flexibility for broadcasters and media professionals working on infrastructure of any scale.
HOME is Lawo's software platform for manage and protect IP-based multimedia infrastructures. Built on cloud-native and containerized microservices, it allows users to connect, configure and control all native HOME devices from Lawo and its ecosystem partners, as well as third-party devices compatible with NMOS. Whether on-premises, multi-location, or in the cloud, HOME offers a unified solution for device discovery, parameter control, flow routing, and intuitive system operation, all in a secure, standards-based environment.
Con native support for SMPTE ST2110, AES67, NMOS IS-04/05, IEEE 802.1x, RADIUS and more, HOME serves as central control layer for modern IP-based workflows. It integrates seamlessly with Lawo's hardware and software portfolio, including its HOME applications for signal processing, monitoring, feedback, transcoding and other multimedia functions.
A key innovation in HOME 4.0 is the introduction of HOME Passes, which replace all previous HOME Core licenses. Starting now, a HOME Pass is required for each actively managed device or HOME app in the platform's inventory. This transparent and scalable licensing model enables precise planning and cost control. It is especially beneficial in dynamic infrastructures, where system size can fluctuate, resulting in less need for physical devices and reduced licensing costs. As infrastructures grow, additional devices can be licensed easily and on demand.
HOME Passes are available both as permanent licenses and through Lawo's FLEX subscription model using credits. The credit-based approach is ideal for projects with a temporary or variable number of devices, as it allows maximum flexibility while maintaining full access to HOME features.
Simplified commissioning
Another milestone of version 4.0 is the redefinition of access to the platform: HOME software is now available for free. This allows users to deploy HOME even in smaller or temporary environments without requiring an initial investment in licenses, facilitating agile project planning and faster deployment.
To further streamline onboarding, all recently purchased Lawo devices and HOME apps based on HOME 4.0 or higher now include the required HOME Passes. This simplifies the configuration process and ensures out-of-the-box compatibility within a HOME-managed IP infrastructure. There is an upgrade path for existing users who wish to upgrade to the new version.
HOME 4.0 continues Lawo's vision of quality management Flexible, scalable and secure IP infrastructure. With a refined software architecture, compliance with open standards and a licensing model adapted to the realities of modern production, HOME offers broadcasters and media organizations a future-proof platform that adapts to both current needs and long-term evolution.
Lawo's approach is already widely used in production facilities, mobile units, remote workflows and cloud-based operations around the world. With version 4.0, Lawo reinforces its position as a trusted partner for the global audiovisual community.
