Brainstorm will present its native support for Canon's virtual production system at IBC 2025
He Canon Virtual Production System, Canon's virtual production solution, will have native support from Brainstorm, which can be discovered through several demos within the framework of IBC 2025 (September 12 – 15).
This development contributes to the product line of Brainstorm virtual production, led by InfinitySet, full compatibility with CV metadata Canon's own CV protocol. This allows InfinitySet to receive accurate native data of the lens and camera parameters at all times, in real time, together with the video signal, without the need for a prior calibration process. To achieve this compatibility, Brainstorm has worked closely with Canon.
The Canon CV metadata technology It is fully compatible with the software library OpenCV, and includes high-impact proprietary extensions designed to improve performance and flexibility. As a contributor to the initiative RICE OSVP of the SMPTE, Canon provides robust interoperability with the latest virtual production standards. The protocol transmits the CV metadata, integrated into a very readable JSON format, directly to InfinitySet, which performs adjustment of the virtual scene according to the camera and lens parameters.
The system is compatible with zoom and prime lenses, and the bonding precise of the lens and camera data, including the lens distortion map If necessary, it makes it easier to integrate live or recorded footage with the background and other synthetic objects in the scene. Even when a crop frame setting is applied, the lens and camera data automatically takes this into account, allowing settings to be easily changed within the same scene without losing consistency nor precision in the composition.
According to David Moldes, product manager of Brainstorm, "this integration seeks to facilitate the work of clients and save time and resources in preparing scenes. Virtual production requires a perfect match between the real scene and what the camera captures, and providing the most precise and accurate data facilitates faster setup and more reliable virtual content creation."
