ITN continues to move towards a “software-first” model with the acquisition of Sony MLS-X1 mixers
The arrival of the MLS-X1 Sony, a scalable mixer aimed at live productions, reinforces the strategy of ITN to bet on a future defined by IP and software-based solutions.
The mixer MLS-X1, which is part of the growing ecosystem Networked Live de Sony, supports the integration of external devices using communication protocols southbound, enabling a more agile production process thanks to advanced network messaging. Offers macro capabilities enhanced, allowing operators to execute complex production tasks with ease and efficiency. Additionally, the ability to dynamically change the size and position of keys enhances the creative possibilities of live streaming, while new conditional actions allow for more sophisticated control of production elements, ensuring ITN can consistently deliver high-quality content.
He mixer, which was chosen from several contenders through a bidding process, will play a crucial role in the upcoming renewal of the Channel 4 News production control facilities at ITN, which will go into operation at the end of this year. Sony hopes this collaboration will enhance ITN's production capabilities, enabling more dynamic and engaging news coverage.
Jenny King, director of technical production at ITN, explains that this investment goes beyond finding a solution for a specific problem, but is presented as a chance to position the network, and, more specifically, Channel 4 News: “The MLS-X1 switcher will allow our team of experts to continue delivering compelling news with greater efficiency and creativity, while providing us with the technical and workflow flexibility we need as our production continues to evolve.”
