Miguel Churruca (Brainstorm): “At IBC we show the latest virtual production and 3D graphics solutions”

Miguel Churruca, marketing and communication director at Brainstorm, presents in this video interview at IBC 2025 the highlights of the Spanish company at the fair such as the demonstrations of Suite 6.2, the latest version of InfinitySet, Aston and eStudio.

“In our main demo we show a complete weather show based on data from a weather application that allows us to generate AR graphics and place them within the virtual production in different ways, both as AR and in the back with an Alfalite LEDwall, combining it at the same time with a chroma with which we can teleport the character, thus exhibiting the combination of both technologies,” says Churruca.

Brainstorm has certified Canon's new metadata transmission technology for virtual production, streamlining camera and lens calibration and improving visual consistency through Canon's flagship color science. This development brings Brainstorm's virtual production product line, led by InfinitySet, full compatibility with Canon's own CV metadata through the CV protocol. This allows InfinitySet to receive accurate native data of lens and camera parameters at all times, in real time, together with the video signal, without the need for a prior calibration process. Canon CV metadata technology is fully compatible with OpenCV software library, and includes high-impact proprietary extensions designed to improve performance and flexibility. As a contributor to the SMPTE RIS OSVP initiative, Canon ensures robust interoperability with the latest virtual production standards. The protocol transmits the CV metadata, embedded in a highly readable JSON format, directly to InfinitySet, which performs adjustment of the virtual scene according to the camera and lens parameters.

The processing capacity and software optimization of InfinitySet were also demonstrated at IBC. Thanks to dual GPU support and Blackwell architecture NvidiaRecently certified, a single workstation can handle complex virtual production tasks, spanning LED and chroma key arrays, multiple camera inputs, and real-time AR graphics. Key features such as additional rendering, 3D LUT-based real set extension, and immersive talent teleportation were on full display, emphasizing performance, scalability, and ease of use.

Graphics in augmented reality

Brainstorm also demonstrated at IBC 2025 the capabilities of Aston in graphics augmented reality in context based on external data and collaborative and multichannel workflows. One of the main novelties is Instances, a smart resource system that allows designers to optimize the creation of templates and graphics by altering these resources centrally. These graphics can be embedded in immersive virtual environments, including Unreal Engine scenes, allowing for seamless interaction with both the talent and the virtual set.
