RTVE opens the doors of its archive on the occasion of World Audiovisual Heritage Day
With the aim of closely showing the work of what is one of the most extensive audiovisual collections in Europe, with nearly 3 million hours of audio and video, the Archive RTVE This Monday, October 27, celebrates the event “Get to know the RTVE Archive: what has never been seen or heard”, an initiative celebrated taking advantage of World Audiovisual Heritage Day that is aimed at the Corporation's workers.
The celebration of this day will serve to learn about the operation of the RTVE archive and will reinforce the commitment to the conservation and responsible use of audiovisual heritage. In the process, good practices will be promoted such as recognize the Archive in the credits; clarify the rights of use; deliver the recordings produced, and use File as preferred source, for its technical quality and its veracity.
The RTVE Archive drives efficiency and innovation in production: its reuse in linear, digital content and podcasts generates significant savings. Every month they are reused 3,000 hours of television archive and 1,000 hours of the sound archive, a volume that turns this asset into a living tool at the service of audiovisual production and creativity.
The RTVE Archive is organized into specialized units: the Program Archive, in Prado del Rey, which preserves, digitizes and manages the funds of non-news programs; he Sound Archive, also in Prado del Rey, which preserves RNE productions and digitizes the collections of the Territorial Centers; he News Archive (Torrespaña), which supports the production of news, manages Eurovision signals and prepares dossiers and bulletins, and the RTVE Catalonia archive (Sant Cugat), in charge of the Catalan programs produced for radio and television from Sant Cugat and Roc Boronat. Beyond facilitating access to reliable and high-quality historical material, essential for audiovisual reconstruction in new formats and platforms, its collections generate business opportunities, through the sale of licenses to third parties, especially in the growing market for documentaries and channels.
