Reading short film nominees 40th edition of the Goya Awards

A total of 48 short films (15 fiction, 15 animation and 18 documentaries) will compete in the next edition of the Goya awards that will take place in Barcelona.

María Castro, Néstor López and Melina Matthews, representing the winners of the last edition, have been in charge of revealing the productions that could be eligible for a Goya on February 28, 2026. On this occasion, after the Academy modified the bases of the awards, the list of candidates has been formed based on the merits of the productions, taking into account their journey throughout the different qualifying festivals whose selection is now more exhaustive.

The selected short films must also provide a document proving that they have won at least one award or have been selected for a minimum of 7 festivals in the case of fiction short films, 3 in the case of documentary short films and 1 for animated short films, or have participated in an international festival.
