Blackmagic - DaVinci - RKB Mainichi Broadcasting

DaVinci Resolve editing and grading software Blackmagic Design becomes the main post-production tool for television RKB Mainichi Broadcasting, a Japanese organization that is already taking advantage of the app's latest AI features.

radio and television RKB Mainichi Broadcasting, located in the prefecture of Fukuoka, produces and broadcasts a very varied programming that includes news programs, documentaries, show segments and sporting events. The company was a pioneer in the use of DaVinci Resolve Studio for him calibrations and, as the tool evolved, the team also largely adopted it for the editing work. In the words of the editor Kamito program: "We started using DaVinci Resolve with version 12.5, primarily for grading 4K shows on a DaVinci Resolve Mini Panel device. The editing features became more and more sophisticated with each update, so our team started using them as well. Last year, even directors made the transition to DaVinci Resolve Studio."

Blackmagic - DaVinci - RKB Mainichi BroadcastingOf the twenty licenses, four are used in editing rooms, while the rest is used in the production department. After updating to version DaVinci Resolve Studio 19, the company enabled its system so that the fifty editors could use the program, which allowed editing and finishing of many of the internal productions (particularly news programs and documentaries) to be done entirely with this tool. "In particular, the directors found the automatic transcription function very valuable, as well as the tracking function with 'Magic Mask'. After making the transition from the program we previously used, I was impressed by the accuracy of the tracking tool and how easy it was to adjust the colors. In documentaries, for example, it is very useful to be able to create a blur effect to hide information from election signs or other controversial elements that might appear in the background," he explains. Kamito.

Now, RKB is already starting to update its software to the version 20, whose latest improvements greatly streamline your production flows. "Previously, a problem we had was that striped clothing could cause flickering - a situation that is quite common with interlaced images. There were over twenty shots to fix and I thought it would take us a whole day, but we finished in just two hours. With Magic Mask 2, it was possible to select only the clothing without having to isolate the entire image of the person. By tracking and applying a subtle blur, we were able to get rid of the flicker effectively," he adds. Kamito, who also highlights improvements in areas such as keyframe editor, the arrival of the “Tape mode” and “Quick export” to the editing module, or the ability to record voiceovers.

RKB It also has a wide variety of physical media Blackmagic Design, among which are matrices Blackmagic Smart Videohub 12×12 in the control room, as well as devices UltraStudio 4K Extreme, units DaVinci Resolve Micro Panel o DaVinci Resolve Mini Panel and recorders HyperDeck Studio 4K Pro in all editing rooms. "In the creative industry, there is a tendency to associate AI with generative tools, but DaVinci Resolve provides exactly the type of capabilities that broadcasters need. By using artificial intelligence for tasks such as object removal, we can spend more time on creative work," concludes Kamito.
