StudioCube Daejeon deploys a studio for virtual production with technology from LG and Brompton
The new virtual production studio recently inaugurated in StudioCube Daejeon, the largest public broadcasting content production studio in South Korea, features the Tessera LED processing platform in Studio V of Brompton Technology and the VP LED solution from LG (model LBCJ026).
StudioCube was created in 2017 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) and the Korean Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) to support the competitiveness and development of South Korea's broadcasting and audiovisual content industry. It has been used as a filming location for numerous successful productions that have received worldwide acclaim, including Squid Game, Kingdom and Sweet Home.
The new Studio V further expands StudioCube's virtual production capabilities, allowing creators to achieve photorealistic environments while maintaining flexibility and profitability that modern productions demand. The new stage was officially unveiled during an opening ceremony on December 3, hosted by KOCCA and attended by senior representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the deputy mayor of Daejeon, demonstrating strong national support for cutting-edge production technologies.
StudioCube's new virtual production (VP) studio uses High resolution LG LED solutions Optimized for virtual production environments with a pixel size of 2.6 mm to 3.9 mm. This enormous volume consists of a main screen measuring 60 meters wide by 8 meters high (including a curved section of 36.5 meters and a flat section of 23.5 metres), two mobile screens measuring 5m by 5m each and a large LED ceiling measuring 15m by 21m.
The core of the system is made up of 19 procesadores LED Brompton Tessera SX40 4K y 38 Tessera XD 10G data distribution units. This powerful system precisely controls a huge LED footprint, with an unprecedented total of 94.7 million pixels across various display configurations, ensuring perfect image quality throughout the system thanks to Brompton's advanced processing technology.
The Studio V's Brompton processors take advantage of several Tessera features essential for high-end virtual production. ShutterSync Precisely synchronizes LED refresh rates with camera shutters to eliminate scan lines and Ensure distortion-free images at all camera angles and frame rates, while Extended Bit Depth maintains the color fidelity and smooth gradations even in workflows HDR difficult.
Perfect real-virtual synchronization
Dark Magic preserves critical shadow details in low-light scenes, essential for dramatic cinematography and realistic ambient lighting, and PureTone It offers accurate color reproduction across the entire gray range, ensuring consistent color grading from virtual to practical elements. Furthermore, integration with OptiTrack and Stage Precision camera tracking allows real-time synchronization between the virtual environment and real camera movements.
The acting president of KOCCA, HyunSuk Yoo, notes that "Studio V represents a major step forward in Korea's mission to promote global content creation. By integrating Brompton's industry-leading LED processing with our expanded production infrastructure, we are enabling creators to work at the highest international level. This facility will play an essential role in enhancing the scale and impact of K content around the world."
“Working with KOCCA and the systems integration team on Studio V at StudioCube has been an exceptional experience,” he says. Sebastian Kanabar, Sales Director (APAC) at Brompton Technology. "This facility demonstrates how our Tessera platform can be tailored to meet the most demanding virtual production requirements, while maintaining the image quality and reliability that filmmakers expect. We are proud to support KOCCA's vision of making Korea a global leader in next-generation content production, and we look forward to seeing the extraordinary productions that will emerge from these world-class facilities."
For its part, Nicolas Min, director of information display business at LG Media Entertainment Solution Company. underlines that "virtual production is transforming the future of content creation, and LG is committed to driving this change.
