ST-2110 Boot Camp

In order to shed light on the transition of the broadcast industry to IP, Theirs has been associated with SMPTE and other industry partners including Meinberg, Arista, Blackmagic, Matrox Video and AJA to launch the SMPTE ST 2110 Practical Lab, an immersive training program designed to accelerate the industry's migration from SDI to IP workflows.

The SMPTE ST 2110 standards define the transport of professional media (uncompressed video, audio, and ancillary data) over IP networks. As broadcasters around the world adopt IP-based infrastructures, mastering ST 2110 workflows is critical for engineers, system integrators and technical managers.

The Practical Lab, with headquarters at the Lawo factory in Rastatt, Germany, offers participants a hands-on environment to design, synchronize, and troubleshoot live production IP networks.

This experience is based on SMPTE's structured educational path, which includes:

  • Introduction to SMPTE ST 2110 (independent study): open enrollment throughout 2026. More information, here.
  • Understanding SMPTE ST 2110 (instructor-taught, virtual/online): In-depth technical exploration of ST 2110 with peer-to-peer learning through an online flipped classroom model. From January 12, 2026 to April 30, 2026. More information, here.
  • SMPTE ST 2110 Boot Camp (intensive instructor-led training, virtual/online): The next Boot Camp session will be held in January. More information, here.

After these courses, professionals will be able to apply their knowledge in real situations using Lawo's cutting-edge solutions, such as the A__mic8 stageboxes, the .edge SDI/IP gateway, VSM, the HOME management and applications platform.

Wim Van Roy, Educational Architect at Lawo and Director of Education 2025 at SMPTE, highlights that "the transition to IP is one of the most significant evolutions in broadcast technology. By partnering with SMPTE and the broader industry to deliver this hands-on lab, we are empowering professionals to confidently design and operate ST 2110 workflows, supporting the industry's future toward dynamic multimedia installations based on SMPTE ST standards. 2110.”
