Is it possible to create an award-winning animated short film in just five days and show every second of the process?
'Jersey', the short film created in less than 120 hours by just one person and broadcast the entire creation process live on stream without cuts, wins the Aguacatón de Oro film festival (Guatemala) with three awards.
The designer, web programmer and audiovisual producer Bouman has demonstrated it with Jersey, his latest 2D animation work that is surprising both for its emotional quality and for the epicness of its production. What began as an extreme challenge at the international edition of the Aguacatón de Oro Festival in Guatemala, in Spain, became a marathon of creative endurance.
During 120 uninterrupted hours, carried out from Saturday December 13 to Thursday December 18, Bouman broadcast the entire process through Twitch: from the first outline of the storyboard to the final render, sleeping just 23 hours in total to meet the delivery deadline.
The jury of the Aguacatón de Oro festival in Guatemala has recognized the piece with three awards that highlight the versatility of the work: third Prize for Best Short Film; Best Screenplay and Special Mention for Best MacGyver Short, for the most creative resolution in the construction of the story.
Under the premise that “on a winter day, a simple garment becomes something more than a coat,” the short film avoids revealing its central theme to maintain the emotional impact that has captivated viewers and the jury. “Jersey” is presented as an intimate and powerful piece that demonstrates that limits only exist to be challenged.
