'Wet Love': the animated short film built with robots and AI

The Spanish creative agency SpecialGuestX has joined the collaborative robot manufacturer Universal Robots and the producer Espadaysantacruz Studio to shape 'Wet Love', an animated short film that combines robotic automation and artificial intelligence.

Wet Love tells the story of a bathtub that embarks on a journey to reunite with its beloved ship. To generate the animation, the creators programmed a robotic arm of Universal Robots so that he could physically move each object in the story in a choreographed way against a chroma key. In total, a hundred motion layers were composed and processed with an AI model based on Stable Video Diffusion. While the physical movements of the cobot They brought humanity to animation, AI generated an “unexpected and magical” visual universe.

Miguel Espada, ECD of SpecialGuestX, considers that the objective of this project was to “develop a unique animation technique, which had the precision of automation but also the magic of manual processes.” Samuel Sanchez, marketing director of Universal Robots, considers that the objective has been met, showing how the company's robots can be used "for creative purposes." “SpecialGuestX and Espadaysantacruz have been collaborating with us for some time, exploring unexpected applications of collaborative robots that go beyond industrial uses,” he stressed.

Wet Love has counted on Laura Plaza as director and person in charge of editing, who has been accompanied by the talent of Álvaro Gordo as technical director; Sofía Fernández as junior art director; Raúl Lucas as head of SFX; Álvaro Gordo as the robot's choreographer; Elvira Jaén as digital composer, and Gus Gill as author of the soundtrack.
