Vienna Spanish Film Festival opens a showcase for Spanish and Latin American cinema
Vienna will host the first edition of the Vienna Spanish Film Festival from April 23 to 26, 2026 (VieSFF), a new cultural event dedicated to contemporary Spanish and Latin American cinema.
This festival was born with the aim of bringing to the Viennese public a careful selection of some of the most relevant films, documentaries and series of the year, combining cinema, industry, music and gastronomy.
The VieSFF will have a Spanish section of about nine titles and one Latin Window section with three titles dedicated to Latin American cinema, in addition to opening and closing galas, honorary awards, professional meetings and activities open to the public. All screenings will be presented in their original version with German subtitles. Among the programmed films, titles presented and awarded at international festivals such as San Sebastián, Cannes or Venice stand out, as well as productions starring some of the most recognized names in current Spanish cinema and series.
The festival will take place in some of the most emblematic venues in Vienna, such as Gartenbaukino, Urania Kino and Artis International Kino, consolidating the city as a meeting point between the Spanish, Latin American and Austrian audiovisual industries.
VieSFF is organized by La Butterfly Studios and has the support of strategic partners such as Cineplexx, as well as the Spanish Embassy in Austria and other cultural institutions such as the Cervantes Institute of Vienna and the Vienna Film Commission. The festival is directed by Mery Cabezuelo, actress and producer with experience in film and television. Igor Ibeas, former general director of eOne Spain and current director of corporate strategy at AF Films, is the festival's industry and programming director.
