The 11th edition of the Spanish Screenings – Málaga de Cine has welcomed a hundred buyers from 35 countries, who have had more than 800 viewings of 41 Spanish films in cinemas.

The market for international promotion and sales Spanish Screenings – Málaga de Cine held its eleventh edition from March 20 to 22. The AC Málaga Palacio Hotel and Yelmo Cines Vialia Málaga were the venues that hosted the viewings, business spaces, interviews and parallel activities organized at the event.

FAPAE, the Confederation that brings together Spanish audiovisual producers, has organized this market, with the sponsorship of the Malaga Festival, the support of ICAA, ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones, Junta de Andalucía, Malaga City Council and EGEDA. It has had the collaboration of AEC, AEPAA-APRIA, Filmotech, Malaga Film School, SGAE, AC Hotels, ComScore and Mountain.

This professional event has welcomed 98 international buyers from 35 countries and 11 festival delegates, who have carried out more than 800 screenings in cinemas of 41 Spanish films, of which 9 have been International Premieres. The most active buyers have been France, Poland and Greece, followed by Germany, Sweden, Taiwan, Italy, Mexico, the US and South Korea.

The films with the highest number of viewings at Screenings have been It's for Your Good, The Mist and the Maiden, The Bar, The Chess Player, Amar y María and the others.

In the new Next from Spain section, 9 titles in the production process have been presented, where projects such as Aundiya, The call, Not with you, bug o Yolo.

Press Junkets

A total of 14 films (May God forgive us, Hostile Zone, Kidnapping, The Queen of Spain, Villaviciosa next door, The Glass Coffin, 100 meters, The open door, 1898, the last of the Philippines, Late for anger, Escape plan, Setback, Skins y The Bar) have participated in Junkets with international journalists from the US, Argentina, Mexico, Italy, France, Croatia, Greece, Germany and Japan.

Almost 300 interviews have been carried out with 32 actors, directors and producers. Among the 16 international media that have covered the different activities of the Spanish Screenings – Málaga de Cine, in addition to interviewing the teams of the Spanish films that will soon be released in their countries of origin, are NBC-Telemundo, Direct TV, Hola TV, La Nación, Otro Cines, El Universal, Ciak Magazine, So Film, ERT, Novi List, Film Dienst, German National Radio and Cinema Today, among others.

Likewise, the international press has had the opportunity to participate in the colloquium A look at the future of Spanish cinema. Participaron en esta charla el guionista y dirección Esteban Crespo; la productora Marta Velasco, de Aralán Films; el productor Enrique López Lavigne, de Apaches Films; y la actriz María Botto, para debatir acerca de la visión que tenemos de nuestro propio cine, su valoración en el extranjero, consecuencias de la irrupción de nuevas plataformas y modelos de negocio, la necesaria internacionalización del cine y su enfoque futuro.

Reuniones en el Sales Office

Más de 400 profesionales de la industria (productores, distribuidores, empresas de servicios, film commissions, agentes de venta, exhibidores, festivales, etc.) han mantenido alrededor de 500 reuniones en el Centro de Negocios del mercado, donde se ha ubicado el Industry Club.

En la Videoteca Online, cuyo acceso sigue abierto hasta el domingo 26 de marzo, se han realizado 180 visionados de los más de 50 títulos disponibles y más recientes del cine español (producidos en los dos últimos años). Las películas más vistas han sido 1898. Los últimos de Filipinas, Pieles, Tarde para la ira, Barça Dreams y The Exchange.

Balance de las negociaciones

Entre los agentes de venta y exhibidores que han participado en esta edición, hay que señalar las actividades llevadas a cabo por Filmax, Latido, Cinema Republic, Urban Films Double I, Inside Contents y Film Factory, que han valorado muy positivamente que los Spanish Screenings – Málaga de Cine se hayan celebrado en el marco del Festival de Cine, afirmando que ha sido un cambio para mejor, ya que ha elevado la actividad del mercado y afianzado su proyección internacional.

Se acaba de cerrar el mercado y ya se puede afirmar que Filmax ha iniciado conversaciones con Polonia para la venta de Muse. También con países latinoamericanos, además de Alemania, que han demostrado interés por Those in the tunnel.

Latido ha vendido Close to your house a Exit Media de Italia y está en negociaciones con India para Al final del túnel, con Bulgaria para The fog and the maiden y Zona Hostil y con Alemania para J.

Por su parte, Cinema Republic ha vendido Carmina or Reventa a Bodega Films de Francia.

Urban Films ha iniciado contactos con Corea del Sur, Polonia y Francia para En la ciudad sin brújula, con Francia, Taiwán, Corea del Sur, EE.UU, Polonia y Reino Unido para Todo saldrá bien y de nuevo Corea, EE.UU, Francia y Taiwán para El silencio de los objetos.

México y Polonia han demostrado interés por María y los demás, de Double I e Inside Contents ha iniciado negociaciones para la distribución de I don't know how to say goodbye y Brava.
