WMSA unifies the voice of wireless microphones in Europe
In order to safeguard access to the spectrum for the production of audio programs and special events (PMSE), the WMSA Europe, a unified European platform intended to represent wireless microphone users and RF professionals.
Under the motto The European voice of wireless microphone and radio frequency professionals, WMSA Europe aims to address a critical reality: the use of wireless audio is expanding rapidly, while spectrum availability continues to shrink.
Increasing regulatory pressure on audio PMSE spectrum (especially in the UHF band, including the 600 MHz band) threatens to exacerbate an already serious imbalance between growing operational demand and regulated access. Wireless microphones and RF systems are essential for broadcasting, live entertainment, cultural institutions, touring productions, film and television production, places of worship and major events across Europe.
As spectrum congestion intensifies, the hands-on experience of RF coordinators and wireless audio professionals becomes increasingly important. Testimony from those who depend on managing wireless audio in complex live spectrum environments is vital to ensuring efficient spectrum use and reliable, interference-free operation. In a sector characterized by a high proportion of freelancers and highly qualified RF professionals, WMSA Europe brings them together to promote technical excellence, unify and amplify their voices and complement other associations with the common goal of supporting PMSE audio in European spectrum debates.
WMSA Europe's mission will be to defend and promote PMSE audio access to critical spectrum resources; meet and brief RF coordinators, sound engineers and event professionals; promote the next generation of RF specialists; and build a dynamic and diverse European advocacy and knowledge platform.
Among the founding members are professionals of recognized solvency in the use and study of the radio spectrum in France, Italy, Finland, Poland, Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom and Denmark. The network will support cross-border coordination for touring productions, the exchange of good practice and the establishment of coherent professional standards across Europe.
WMSA Europe will act as a technical and operational voice in the changing European spectrum landscape, ensuring that European spectrum policy is based on accurate information and takes due account of the realities and working practices of professional PMSE audio event planning and production.
The partnership brings that deep field experience and technical data to the dialogue with European decision-makers to promote efficient spectrum management, best practice coordination techniques, cross-border collaboration and long-term security for PMSE audio users.
