Highland: a unique radio broadcasting from a hospital with AEQ
The console AEQ Forum Split is part of the latest renovation of the Highland Hospital Radio, a volunteer-run radio station offering a personalized service to patients at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, Scotland, through musical requests and dedications.
The station, a 2012 recipient of the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, began broadcasting on 1970 under the name of Radio Inverness. Currently, it broadcasts via streaming 24 hours a day, seven days a week, producing more than 25 hours of original content weekly.
As part of its latest technical update, the station has opted for the digital console AEQ Forum Split for its main broadcast studio for reasons such as its “ease of use, operational reliability and high audio quality.” The solution incorporates all essential functions for this type of installation, such as automatic monitor muting, a “cough” function, fader starting, signal routing control, signal management for the automation of external equipment, as well as communication and intercom tools.
Thanks to your modular design and its compact format, the Forum Split adapts to a wide variety of environments: from self-control or speaker monitoring studios, to television production control rooms, sound production facilities or mixed configurations within large-scale installations. The system incorporates the modular motor FR CORE in three rack units and can be configured with up to six four-fader modules, as well as a control and monitoring unit.
AEQ's solution also stands out for its ability to be equipped with multi-channel AoIP input and output cards, which support the protocol AES67 through technology Dante. Thanks to this connectivity, it is possible to exchange signals with consoles, routers and end devices. more than 300 manufacturers. Additionally, the console offers MADI connectivity and allows the integration of up to two internal digital telephone hybrids, thus expanding your communication and production capabilities.
The project was carried out in collaboration with Broadcast Radio, broadcast solutions specialist and AEQ partner, who was responsible for the system integration and technical implementation.
