'Vertical Awards': CMM and the Almagro Festival, pioneers in rewarding series shot vertically

Los CMMPlay Vertical Awards, an initiative framed in the collaboration agreement signed between Middle Castile-La Mancha and the Almagro International Film Festival, encourage the creation of audiovisual formats adapted to new forms of vertical consumption by supporting the production of a series with €10,000.

With this initiative, Middle Castile-La Mancha seeks to reinforce its commitment to innovation in contents and formats, which represents a boost for the audiovisual sector and a new way to promote creativity and emerging talent in the region. The general director of CMM, Carmen Amores, and the director of the Festival, Marko Montana.

Applicants must submit a candidacy to convince the jury that your project is worthy of the final CMM award: 10.000€ for the production of the first season of his serie vertical. Thus, regional radio and television leads a pioneering initiative that seeks to promote emerging talent through a format that is booming internationally and that opens the doors to new creators from Castilla-La Mancha and the rest of Spain.

The director of Digital Content at CMM, Isaiah Blazquez, has stressed that CMMPlay wants to promote emerging regional talent and turn the platform into a reference space for innovation: “The initiative seeks to ensure that these new projects pass through our platform to continue being the spearhead of innovation.” Likewise, Blázquez has assured that “we want to support projects that have public value for society” and has highlighted the growth of vertical content: “CMM's objective is to be important for citizens in a context in which vertical video is the format that is achieving the most reach and retention.”

Desde este momento, los participantes pueden presentar sus proyectos a los CMMPlay Vertical Awards, que se articularán en una primera fase de selección. Los proyectos piloto se publicarán en las cuentas de redes sociales de CMMPlay, permitiendo la participación y valoración del público. Además, un professional jury determinará el ganador del concurso, cuya serie vertical se podrá ver en exclusiva en la plataforma digital tras su producción.

El Festival Internacional de Cine de Almagro será el canalizador de la iniciativa. Los aspirantes defenderán sus proyectos en los Pitch de Series Verticales organizados por el Festival, que este año cumple su novena edición. El director del Festival Internacional de Cine de Almagro, Marko Montana, ha destacado que “desde el festival valoramos las grandes historias y las formas originales de transmitir ideas” y ha añadido que “queremos apoyar a esas personas que están explorando este nuevo lenguaje y tratando de acercarse a la audiencia” a través de un formato “en proceso de definición”.

Por su parte, la codirectora del Festival, Celia Vera, ha avanzado que “entre 10 y 20 candidaturas seleccionadas presentarán sus propuestas el 6 de agosto en Almagro”. También, Vera ha explicado que el 7 de agosto se celebrará en el Teatro de Almagro “una jornada abierta a todos los profesionales del sector para empezar a familiarizarnos con estas nuevas formas de narrativa audiovisual”.
