Autodesk has announced its new collaboration project with BMW Group. The German manufacturer has hired Autodesk Consulting to create more than 240 animated virtual models of the BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce brands to use in the company's advertising materials such as television ads, brochures and even to make its Internet profile more attractive.

The collaboration includes automating the transformation of design data into marketing assets and the creation of models. Autodesk, together with Mackevision, a German company based in Stuttgart specializing in computer-aided visualization, will convert vehicle data into Autodesk Maya and Autodesk Showcase software files, ready for animation and rendering.

Autodesk Consulting will provide Autodesk Creative Bridge services to BMW to create a visual workflow that leverages its 3D assets. In this way, the company will be able to reduce its production costs considerably, while enhancing creative flexibility.

Showcase software, as part of Autodesk's digital prototyping solution, helps create accurate, realistic images from 3D CAD data to translate shapes and create environmental context that communicates brand character. The powerful Autodesk Maya 3D modeling, animation and rendering solution enables automotive and consumer product manufacturers to incorporate CAD data into product-related materials. Maya is also a natural extension of the Autodesk Alias and Autodesk Showcase family of products that optimizes the creation of advanced rendering and animated visualization of digital prototypes.

According to Karim Salabi, Vice President of Autodesk's Visual Communications Group, "Leveraging design data for marketing is revolutionizing the way the automotive industry advertises in print, on the Internet and in television commercials. On the other hand, the possibility of generating advertising views allows new vehicles to be marketed without the need for expensive physical prototypes. This strategy unleashes new creative potential."
