Goodbye, Mr Zoom!
Valerio Lazarov, unforgettable and great director of TVE in the 70s, CEO of Telecinco from 1985 to 1994 and founder of the production company Prime Time Communications and Dream Prod, dies at the age of 73.
The producer and director of Romanian origin but nationalized as Spanish since 1972, Valerio Lazarov, died this morning at the age of 73. Lazarov, who was known in the 70s as Mr. Zoom for bringing to Spain a peculiar and innovative style of filmmaking with regular use of zoom shots (rare at the time), was one of the architects of the launch of Telecinco after his short journey through Berlusconi's RAI. From his production table came programs and series such as The Last Fashion, Osaka Show, Radiography of a Festival, Gentlemen and Ladies, A Child's Smile, Spanish Style, Passport to Dublin, and countless special programs, some of which obtained international recognition. After the success of series such as Hostas Royal Manzanares, already with Prime Time, Lazarov had been producing with less regularity. His last production for television was Aeropuertos Hello Goodbye, produced with his production company Dream Prod. and broadcast last year on Antena 3.
Of great originality in his work and enigmatic and trickster personality, Lazarov will undoubtedly go down in the history of television in Spain. Goodbye, Mr. Zoom!
