Spheron HDRV: a curious proposal that offers 30 fps and 20f stops of dynamic range
The German Spheron presents at Siggraph'09 a high definition camera, still in development, that works up to 30fps and is capable of doing live HDR with 20 f stops of dynamic range.
Spheron, a German company created in 1998 by Gerhard Bonnet, has presented an innovative camera that many compare with the Red One for its originality and for having a CMOS sensor of the same size as the 35mm.
HDRV is based on the company's own camera that has a 50 megapixel sensor, 26 stops in a single frame pass and a 360º HDR spherical image. Spheron's new proposal can even work at 30fps (although the company is already working on a model that would reach 50 and 60fps) and whose main novelty is that it is capable of doing live HDR.
With 20f stops of dynamic range and Full HD 1920×1080 resolution, it has a fiber-attached recorder with uncompressed recording capacity of up to five hours (in raw .exr format). Using a cable, the signal is sent to an external server with a powerful GPU where the data is compressed at a 100:1 ratio, although uncompressed material is always available for use in applications that require it.
As for objectives, it supports PL lenses and has a somewhat scarce electronic viewfinder that Sheron is still working on.
