Silver Screen Fund: Technicolor's support for the renewal of silver screens
Technicolor, Deluxe, Eastman Kodak and Fujifilm create the Silver Screen Fund that aims to financially help exhibitors for the development of 3D.
Techicolor, Deluxe Entertainment Services Group, Kodak and Fujifilm have joined forces to advance the Technicolor 3D system and create the Silver Screen Fund to provide financial assistance to exhibitors who are adapting their theaters to 3D. The fund defers costs associated with the acquisition and installation of silver screens intended to implement Technicolor's 3D solution. The fund, which will be managed by Technicolor and available immediately, will finance up to 500 silver screens in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Funding is available immediately to qualified exhibitors.
Some of the big movie studios are supporting Technicolor's 3D solution. DreamWorks, Lionsgate, Paramount, Overture, Universal Pictures, Warner Bros., y The Weinstein Company están trabajando con Technicolor para proyectar sus películas en Technicolor 3D. Seventeen 3D titles have already been announced for 2010, including: How to Train Your Dragon, Piranha 3D, Shrek Forever After, Despicable Me, Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, Friday the 13th: Part 2; Guardians of Ga’Hoole, Alpha and Omega, Burst, Oobermind, y Yogi Bear.
The Technicolor 3D alternative
The Technicolor 3D solution uses a proprietary system based on a “production to projection” concept that takes advantage of the 35mm system installed in most cinemas. The system presents images of the left and right eyes on a screen with a special silver coating. The solution works with circular polarized lenses that refract the image for both eyes, creating a three-dimensional sensation. The silver screen can be used for the projection of Technicolor 3D or other stereoscopic systems.
