Sony: the power of images
Within the strategy of approaching its clients and partners launched with the 'The Power of Images' program, Broadcast'09 becomes a unique opportunity to closely show the wide range of solutions for all environments that Sony currently offers.
In this edition of Broadcast'09, Sony's stand includes important new features in all the multinational's product areas. The first thing that the visitor who approaches the Sony space is struck by is the group of displays with three-dimensional volume, forming curious geometries, that welcomes them from the reception desk. This volume video wall is governed by a Ziris Canvas system, a solution that eliminates the traditional video wall by allowing designers to transform standard uniform formats into unique and attractive creations that do not go unnoticed by the client.
The system allows you to use a combination of different screen sizes placed vertically, horizontally or at any inclination. Under the control of a custom CELL PlayStation3 processor, Ziris Canvas drives images of unlimited resolutions on various native HD displays by synchronizing audio and video across all displays, delivering spectacular impact. This group of screens could be managed remotely via IP through Ziris Manage.
The Sony stand is divided into a set and eight areas dedicated to XDCAM EX, monitors, network production, audio, HDCAM SR, XDCAM 422 and 3D.
XDCAM EX
Regarding the range of products in XDCAM EX, the first shoulder model in this format stands out, the PMW-350. It is a camcorder whose main feature is that it can not only record in HD but also in SD.
Another novelty at Broadcast'09 is the PMW-EX1R, a handheld camcorder that incorporates a 15-second first-view cache like the higher models. In terms of storage, it should be noted that Sony is marketing the new generation of cheaper memories, highlighting the appearance of a memory stick adapter intended for those users, generally in social reporting, accustomed to this system.
XDCAM HD
The star in the area of optical disc-based XDCAM HD is the PDW-F800, heir to the 700, it carries the CineAlta seal and has a series of high-level functions such as Hypergamma. This is a camera intended for high-end film and television production in tapeless XDCAM.
HDCAM SR
One of the devices that attracts the most attention at the Sony stand is the SRW-9000, the first XDCAM SR camcorder. Its advantage is that it provides the entire optical block of the F23, high quality range, Hypergamma curves, being able to choose between working at 444 or 422. This camcorder, given its high performance but its 'lightness', is being widely used in advertising productions at the highest level. Along with this camcorder you can see the high-end SRW-5800 HD video recorder, which offers RGB 444 recording and is especially suitable for top quality film and television productions. Within the HDCAM range we also find the HDW-650P camcorder, which adds Sony's latest advances for tape-based HD television production.
Monitoring and management
In terms of monitoring, Sony has a wide range for all types of needs, highlighting the new PVM-L1700 and PVM-L3200, with 17 and 32 inches suitable for broadcast applications. The PVM-L1700 is presented as the ideal solution for mobile units, while the PVM-L3200 provides high-end productions with a reproduction quality that is difficult to beat. Nor can you lose sight of the GXD-L65H1 Full HD large-format LCD monitor, which with its 65” and resistance to outdoor conditions allows messages to be transmitted reliably and clearly in public spaces, such as shopping centers and sports or transportation venues, being indicated for digital signage applications.
As far as studio production is concerned, in the Sony space we can see the ELC system in action, an automation and management solution for all the systems in a studio.
Studio cameras and mixers
Two cameras reign on the set that Sony has set up to test the smallest detail of its studio cameras. Although there are numerous models exhibited, the new HSC-300 and HXC-100 stand out (similar to the 300 but without master setup). We can also see the HDC-1500R in action, of which Sony has already sold ninety units in Spain with installations as outstanding as the two HD mobile units from TVE or the new HD mobile from TV3.
As for mixers, Sony's range extends both above and below, highlighting the BRS-200 (9 inputs/outputs, intended for local and corporate TV) and the DVS-600 (multi-format with 49 inputs and two ranges of outputs).
Sony on Telecinco
Coinciding with the first day of Broadcast'09, among the hundreds of professionals who came to the Sony stand, it is worth highlighting the presence of the Telecinco engineering team, a network that in an unprecedented project developed over fourteen months has replaced its entire workflow in capture, production, post-production, broadcast and storage with a tapeless solution based on XDCAM. Once this transition was completed last summer, Telecinco has standardized XDCAM as a work format both in its facilities on the Carretera de Fuencarral and in the production center in Villaviciosa de Odón (Madrid), also recommending that its suppliers deliver material in this format.
Finally, review the stereoscopy demonstration that Sony is carrying out on a polarized LCD based on a RealD 3D system.
