Sony advances with 'Camera Verify' in image verification
As AI-generated and manipulated content becomes increasingly sophisticated, the need for reliable and verifiable images has never been greater, especially for media professionals. The Camera Authenticity Solution from Sony now offers a beta feature that allows image authenticity information to be shared externally via a specific URL.
Sony's Camera Authenticity Solution is designed to meet this need by incorporating Sony's proprietary C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) digital signatures and 3D depth information directly into the image at the time of capture.
This solution records the C2PA digital signatures and the 3D depth information owned by Sony on the camera at the time of capture, allowing image authenticity information to be verified on the image validation site. With the newly added “Camera Verify” feature (still in beta), news organizations can now issue external URLs to share images with embedded digital signatures, allowing third parties to view verification results via trusted URLs issued directly by the verification site. With this function, the media will be able select specific authenticity elements to share during the content publishing and distribution process, allowing for faster dissemination of credible and verifiable content.
Additionally, the digital signature license, which allows digital signatures to be embedded directly into images captured with compatible Sony cameras, can now be purchased through the Sony website. Creators’ Cloud, which expands accessibility to more professionals.
Sony plans to expand support for video content starting in fall 2025, as part of its ongoing commitment to promoting trusted digital media. Along with its activities on the C2PA steering committee, Sony aims to continue improving the reliability of content in the field of media.
