Adobe will lay off 9% of its workforce
A total of 680 workers around the world will be affected by the second cut that the company has carried out in the last year. Last December, coinciding with the launch of Creative Suite 4, Adobe announced the dismissal of 600 professionals.
Adobe Systems has confirmed that it will finally cut a total of 680 jobs worldwide, 9% of its global workforce, according to the file submitted to the US Securities Commission (SEC). This will be the second wave of layoffs carried out by the manufacturer since in December of last year, coinciding with the release of Creative Suite 4, the multinational already laid off 600 professionals.
A strong stagnation in sales accompanied by a harsh readjustment in costs is behind a labor restructuring that will only affect workers who were already Adobe employees before the acquisition of the web analysis firm Omniture. This purchase, carried out last September and valued at around 1.8 billion dollars, already meant the announcement of the dismissal of 9% of the 1,200 professionals who made up Omniture's staff.
With profits that would have fallen in the third quarter of 2009 by 29%, Adobe hopes to restructure its business in order to balance the budget for the next fiscal year. For now, this will have to include the between 65 and 71 million dollars that the layoffs will cost.
