This measure, adopted after the purchase of Ono, would mean the termination of the contract for 22% of the workforce in Spain.

Vodafone (Photo: CCOO)The CEO of Vodafone, Antonio Coimbra, presented this Tuesday an ERE that could affect up to 1,300 jobs. It would mean the termination of the contract for 22% of the workforce in Spain. 60% of the layoffs, that is, about 780 workers, would correspond to professionals from Ono, and 40%, approximately 520 employees, to Vodafone.

The multinational alleges duplication in staff positions after the merger, the drop in income and EBITDA of both companies in recent years, accompanied by a strong investment in new generation networks, which requires higher levels of efficiency.

Vodafone already carried out an ERE in 2013, which ultimately resulted in 620 layoffs and 130 outsourcing, due to the drop in its income in the Spanish market due to the crisis. For its part, Ono also carried out an ERE at the end of 2008, which affected 1,300 of the 4,300 workers it had at that time.

The UGT and CCOO unions have rejected the collective dismissal process proposed this Tuesday in Vodafone Spain and Vodafone Ono.

From UGT they reject that “the instrument to make a company competitive is the destruction of employment” and ask that in the negotiation process, which will open on September 1, “an agreement be reached to improve the working and social conditions” of the employees.

The state union section of CCOO in Vodafone Spain has also shown its total rejection of this ERE, announcing that it will do everything possible to “prevent the destruction” of jobs.
