Sony's content management solution HDXChange version 5 streamlines and simplifies the management of incoming content with new features such as improved support for all SD and XDCAM formats, a hierarchical folder structure, and storage of non-video assets.

Sony HDXChange en Broadcast'09Sony Professional has launched a new version of the HDXChange content management solution, allowing users to organize and edit media assets in a more flexible and simple collaboration environment. HDXChange makes it faster and simpler to store and share high-quality content for use on a wide range of platforms, from conventional broadcast, tape and DVD systems, to web, IPTV and mobile. HDXChange has been designed by Sony to simplify network workflows.

Now, HDXChange V5 streamlines and simplifies input content management with new features such as improved support for all SD and XDCAM formats, a hierarchical folder structure, and non-video asset storage.

Nick Smith, head of product marketing at Sony Professional, highlighted that "media asset management is one of the key points of the broadcast sector, from independent producers to large networks. HDXChange V5 offers users a total content delivery solution that integrates with a wider range of file formats and simplifies access to media assets and their storage."

MXF Compatibility

HDXChange is based on widely accepted open standards and is now capable of storing all video material in the form of MXF (Material eXchange Format) files. In this way, the search and organization of content is simple, while the possibilities of exchanging metadata with applications from other manufacturers are expanded.

Compatible with XDCAM SD and HD formats

Sony created and designed HDXChange V5 to provide the highest level of support for ingesting and storing native XDCAM, XDCAM HD and XDCAM EX material. SD users can also save their assets at the highest quality, as HDXChange V5 supports MPEG-2 media files at 30, 40 and 50 megabits.

Storage and archiving of other assets (non-video)

HDXChange V5 allows you to import, manage and archive any type of file, including graphics, audio and other documents. This way, users have the flexibility to manage all their assets in a single application throughout the production and post-production process.

New folder structure

The old flat folder structure has been improved with a hierarchical model that allows users to create elaborate groups of folders with different access levels. It is particularly important for video producers and editors who need to categorize assets effectively and protect sensitive material.

Virtual media files

Innovative storage features enable HDXChange V5 to generate virtual copies of media assets that can be moved from one location to another without the need to create physical copies. This significantly reduces the user's storage requirements and allows these assets to be stored in various categories.

Greater visibility of deleted files

Users authorized to clean up the content management system can now view those marked for deletion in their entirety. In this way, the protection of valuable data is guaranteed and the time spent organizing files is minimized.
